Girl’s Crochet Belt

Crochet cuteness… it really doesn’t get much better than this!

Girls Crochet Belt Free PatternVery easy to make, and perfect to match with any outfit (did you notice the stitching on Maia’s jeans matches the belt stripes?)… what little (or big) girl wouldn’t want one?

First up I apologise for not taking photos while I was crocheting. This was a spur of the moment project, I’d been talking about it for days and Maia kept asking when I was going to make it. So a half hour before she went to bed I got started… “see Im doing it, off you go, I promise it will be finished in the morning!”

You will need:

Yarn of your choice and a crochet hook to suit- I used DK and a 3.5mm hook (this is smaller than I would usually use, but I wanted it to be reasonably tight as I’m pretty sure the belt will stretch with time).

A biggish button.

A needle to sew in your ends and button on.

Decide how long you would like your belt to be. This belt could be any length you choose… I like it with a bit of length to dangle. Chain until you think it is long enough.

For this belt (to fit an almost 5 year old with plenty of extra length) chain 130.

NB. You will be crocheting along the top of your chain then around and along the bottom side of your chain working in rounds, always with the front of your belt facing towards you.

Single Crochet (sc) in the third chain from your hook and sc in next 3 chains. Now you will be making button holes: *Chain 3 and skip the next 3 chains in your foundation chain, sc in the following 3 chains* repeat between * and * 8 more times. Check your belt around waist and ensure that it is going to be tight enough. If not add another couple of button holes.

Sc along the remainder of your belt to the last stitch of your foundation chain.  At the last stitch sc 4 times into the chain then continue along the bottom edge of your chain, sc in each stitch until you reach you last button hole.

*Three sc into your 3 chain space (this edges your button hole), sc into your next 3 sc (between button holes)* repeat between * and * 8 more times (or for each of your buttonholes). Sc along the remaining length of your belt until you reach the end, then sc four times in  the last stitch.

Working back along the top of your first row of sc, sc in each stitch until you reach your first buttonhole, 3 sc into buttonhole sc in next 3 sc, repeat between * and * 8 more times (or each of your buttonholes). Sc in each stitch until you reach the end of belt. Join with a slip stitch into the first of the 4 sc in last stitch. Fasten off and join another (contrasting) colour (in this belt that colour is blue).

Sc in first stitch of 4 in end of previous row 2 sc in next stitch 1 sc in next 2 sc in next stitch, continue all the way around your belt sc in each stitch around, adding 2 sc in the second to last stitch at the end of the belt, 1 sc in next stitch and 2 sc in next stitch. Hopefully this pic demonstrates a little better than I am explaining it!

Crochet belt endAt the end of the round join into the first stitch of the round with a slip stitch, fasten off and join your last colour (light pink). Sc in each stitch around, at the belt end note your 5 end stitches ( the third stitch being the middle of the end) 2 sc in the 2 stitches before the middle stitch, 1 sc in the middle stitch, 2 sc in the next 2 stitches. See the picture above for more info.  Continue around – sc in each stitch as you go, adding the extra stitches on the end, until you reach the beginning of the round- join with the slip stitch and fasten off.

Fasten off and weave in all ends.  Sew your button on front at the opposite end from the button holes.  All finished, well done!

Check back tomorrow, I loved this so much Ive made a slightly different version for myself… I’m going to post a how to – with lots more photos of the actual belt making, promise ;o)
