In the garden

Well we hadn’t really been having much of a long hot summer – a bit cool and damp for my liking.  Doesn’t seem to be bothering my garden, there is still plenty of late summer bounty…

We’ve been enjoying lots of beans but its starting to get to the point where I don’t want them EVERY night.  The kids are past that they now refuse to eat them! These are some Purple Kings, which I think are rather lovely:

Plenty of toms are coming ripe now… I even made some tomato sauce last week, but it seems only Carter and I are fans (I guess I shouldnt try to compete with Watties).

My favourite variety to grow is Black Krim, they are big and ugly… but delicious!

For the first time we’ve also had a great crop on our nectarine tree…  Last year we got maybe 12 fruit, this year its been more like 12 kgs.

These green grapes should be ready very soon – the vines are laden…

The passion fruit is too, and if the vine hoppers don’t carry them off first we should get an excellent crop of these in a month or so…

There are also loads of cucumbers, herbs, silverbeet, potatoes and yams… the peppers are ripening and chillies a wee way off.

What’s growing at your place this week?

Not much growing in my neck of the woods as we are in winter. An very mild one though. I noticed some tulips and daffodils peeking out of the ground the other day. But it is really much too early for them.

    Your photos are beautiful!

To be completely honest I grow the purple ones because they are so pretty… they just taste like ordinary green beans, but look so much nicer in the garden. Im also growing purple potatoes again this year (for the same reason) Ill add some photos of them when I dig them.

That’s only a small small part of the vine and we have another big one equally as laden with black grapes. We eat lots… and give heaps away, if there are any left I might put a sign out. Last year we managed to eat most of them!!

I love your garden with all these great vegetables and fruits, wonderful. Your photographs are amazing! Nothing grows at my place at the moment. We have -15°C here at daytime, it is horrible cold. You can´t stay outside for long. I`m so looking forward to summer!
    Have a great weekend!

The food in your garden looks amazing! We are forecast for snow this weekend so our garden is sound asleep. I have however started scrubbing pots and ordering seeds and plants ready for the new season.
