A new blue cushion…

How’s 2014 turning out for you so far? Great, I hope!

Today I completed my first project for the year:

Blue crochet cushionIt’s another one of these groovy zigzag flower cushions… this time in shades of blue.

Blue crochet cushionWell, and with a bright yellow star burst on the other side. You know, for when you need a little sunshine!

Crochet cushtion free patternThe hydrangea is from my garden, it is a truly wonderful year for them. The squirrel is Maia’s bedside light… I had to wait for it to cycle through all the other colors to get to blue for each photo 🙂

The pattern is very easy, good sitting in front of the telly crochet! You might recall, I made one last year too, it still looks great… using all wool yarn helped I think (as opposed to my flower cushion which now looks rather shabby, due almost certainly to it being made using a mix of acrylics).Crochet cushion free patternI’m now on the hunt for a new project. Any suggestions? What are you working on right now? J – xox

It’s such a beautiful yet unusual pattern, makes a change from the usual crochet cushions you can get. I’ll put this one in my to do pile. Jean

        Hey Janette,

I love these cushions- been looking for something like them for a while. Would you contemplate making me 2 – of course I’d be happy to pay whatever you wanted for them. Best, Emma

Hi Emma, thanks for asking but unfortunately I don’t make anything to sell-I have a difficult time keeping up with crocheting projects for my family 🙂 perhaps another reader might be able to help you out? Jx

Your cushion is beautiful and has been on my list of things to make since seeing the first one you made. I’m making a spring shawl at the moment . Have been making lots of small things recently and wanted a bigger project I could loose myself in. Treated myself to beautiful yarn and am thoroughly enjoying the process. Thinking of a light weight poncho ready for spring too as my next project too. Have had enough of this wet and windy weather in the uk at the moment. Spring inspired crochet will get me through!!! Hope you find inspiration soon xxx

A nice yarn makes all the difference, there’s nothing nicer! I like the idea of a poncho too- but not sure how much I would wear it… might be nice for autumn for me (and spring for you!) xx

I am still finishing my final christmas gift (puff, pant) which is an ami character called Hatsune, She has blue hair to the floor but fortunately is only 6 inches high. I love your cushions and want to make the 2 you mentioned immediately. As for suggestions how about a Koala from my free Koala pattern.

I just love reading your blog. It’s a little treat for me to see a new post in my inbox. I, too, have admired this cushion since the last one you made. The blues are beautiful. And I love the tip about using all wool to keep it looking nice. One of my favorite shops just got a shipment of wool, so now I have a reason to shop! I received a beautiful skein of wool for Christmas and am knitting a little shoulder shawl from one of the One-Skein books. Can’t wait to wear it!

Another lovely cushion – instantly reminded me of your post last year and my desire to make a huge floor cushion in the same design (needless to say I haven’t managed to do it yet – maybe this year!). My youngest turns three next Sat so a few things to make for her birthday, plus an extensive list of unfinished (and ashamedly, rather neglected) projects from last year. Look forward to see what your next project is. Best wishes for the New Year, Claire x

I’m looking for my crochet hook right now! And I love the poetry of your arrangement with the other objects in the picture. You have quite the artist’s eye! God bless you in this new year and thanks for all the ideas you share.

I love how you’ve used different colours for the flowers on each side so you have different looks. It’s a lovely pattern and the colours of the previous one look great too. I hope I get around to making one myself. I wonder what colours to choose?

Love your pillow! I’m currently working on a cross stitch Mandela but need to get started on a layette for the newest grandchild who will be arriving late summer. I also inherited a lovely white crushed velvet dress from a neighbor who was going to toss it out. I will be carefully deconstructing I to create two dresses for my 5 and nearly 3 year old granddaughters. That and restoring a bed frame. 😊

How exciting to have the birth of a new family member on the horizon, congratulations! I bet the girls can’t wait for their dresses, do you think you will dye the velvet or leave it white?

      • Lois Field says:

No, I think I will leave it white. Before I cut it up I’ll take a picture of the dress and show the embellishments I want to try to incorporate into each one to make them a bit different from the other.
