It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Despite the weather being almost unbearably hot….

Christmas centerpieceIt is indeed beginning to look a lot like Christmas!Christmas centerpiece 2From the Christmassy centerpiece on our table… Christmas crafts for kidsChristmas crafts for kidsTo the Christmas crafting that’s been going on. There are obviously going to be a lot of reindeer at the inn this year. Here’s hoping they don’t eat too much?Carter painting his reindeerCarter’s ended up with lightning bolts on both sides (he’ll need these for extra speed apparently).

Crochet christmas decorationsThe tree has been up for a couple of weeks, and the remainder of the decorations are now up too. These crochet decorations I made last two(!) years ago needed a few bead replacements, and are now good as new…Crochet christmas decorationsI’ve also started making a starry crochet garland, I’ll share the star pattern as soon as Ive made a few more. I’m loving my smaller hook and crochet yarns now I’ve become accustomed to using them.

Christmas muffinsAnd if you are looking for the perfect little Christmas muffin, give these a try. Sweet and cinnamony… just the thing for Christmas, wherever you may be!

Christmas Muffins

  • 1 cup plain white flour
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup milk

Topping:

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

In a whiz mix egg, butter, sour cream, and milk –  until well combined.  Add in flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt, and whiz just a little until the mixture is all combined (dont over process or you’ll end up with tough muffins!). Scoop batter into 10-12 paper lined muffin tins.  Stir together topping ingredients and sprinkle about a 1/2 – 1 teaspoon of the mixture onto each muffin. Bake at 200C for 15-20 minutes or until muffins are golden brown.

Make a cup of your favourite warm beverage, put your feet up and enjoy. How are your Christmas preparations coming along?  Is everything ready? Jxo

Hi Janette, I would like to wish you a very Happy Christmas. I must let you know that I have enjoyed your site so much these last few months. My presents for my daughters are all crochet this year and I am so proud to have been able to make the flower cushion, owl mitts, granny square cushion and hat X 2 for both my girls, can’t wait to see their reaction as I have kept it secret from them as they are away at college. You have inspired me so much and I now have so many other projects I have to do for 1014! I have already got wool to make myself a granny square throw. Very hot here in Qatar. Looking forward to more exciting stories and projects, Thank you

So lovely to see your family getting into the Christmas spirit! I’ve been a bit sad lately because this will probably be the last Christmas we’ll have in winter, in our own place anyway, before we return to a summer Christmas in Australia, and it just seems so much harder to get into the mood! Everyone is decorating with fairy lights and burning candles and having hot drinks, and they’re the last things I want to do in summer! But you’ve shown me there’s still hope! =)

Wow, it’s hard to believe that it’s so warm where you are while we have record cold temperature in the United States! …Six or 7 inches of snow yesterday! Definitely going to try your Christmas muffins…they look delicious. Happy Holidays!

Hi Jeannette! I’ve enjoyed your blog so much this past year.
I laughed when you said “despite it being almost unbearably hot…”. I am from the other side of the world (Ontario, Canada) where it is biting cold now (-23C just this morning!) with lots of snow (we got a nice dumping of it two nights ago!). It just made me smile to think how different Christmas must be with no snow or cold 🙂 Happy holidays to you and your family!

Such wonderful pictures of your children painting. And I enjoyed the idea of using Christmas cards as a picture as an ornament with crochet edgings. I have been trying to think of some little gifts to give my grown daughters to add to their trees, and this might just be it. Here is wishing you a very Blessed Christmas.

The first CHRISTMAS took place in the desert. I have a feeling it was warm. No matter where we are CHRISTMAS is really about only one thing. Happy Holidays to all.

The muffin recipe looks perfect! Nice to see one with the whole wheat. I usually sub yogourt for sour cream and cut the liquid back a tad. I’ll be making these next week. Love your hand-made ornaments, too. ~ Linne

Wow, you have been busy with these lovely makes.
I also wanted to stop by and say thank you for your mousie tutorial and to let you know he is displayed in all his glorious oddness on my blog. The credit is to you for the easy to follow tutorial and his oddness is entirely mine as I struggled with the features which is why he has the maddest whiskers!
