And some for me too…

Using the basic crochet slipper pattern I blogged about last week, I made a pair of crochet slippers for myself.

I admit, cream isn’t an obvious choice for slippers… but I’m making a concerted effort to reduce the amount of wool I have on hand. So cream it was…I think the turquoise rose sets them off quite nicely. And what’s that hiding under my jeans…

A little whimsy… Ballet ties!!

Easy Crochet Slippers – Adult sizing.

Using worsted weight wool and a 4mm hook these fit my rather large size 9s.  To make bigger slippers, increase more (or use a larger hook and heavier yarn), to make smaller increase less (or use a smaller hook and a lighter weight yarn)… most wools will have plenty of stretch so keep that in mind, make your slippers tighter rather than too loose.

1. Chain 4 and join with a slip stitch to make a circle. Chain 1 and sc 7 (8sc total)  times into the circle – do not join, you will work in continuous rounds… use a marker if that helps (I usually just count the stitches – but this can be disaster if you get interrupted and lose your place).

2. 2Sc into each stitch around (16sc).

3. 2sc in the first stitch, 1sc in the next, repeat around (24sc).

4. 2sc in the first stitch, 1 sc in the next 2 stitches, repeat around (32sc).

5.  From here on just work 1 sc in each stitch around.  Keep working in rounds until the slipper is long enough to reach us far as you like up the foot. Here’s how far I went, 22 rounds:6. Work the first 22 stitches, then turn (leaving 10 stitches un-worked – this will be the top of your slipper) ch 1 and work back across the stitches you just made. Continue working back and forth- don’t forget to chain 1 at the end of each row:

7. Keep working back and forth until the slipper is long enough, when stretched, to reach the heel. For me this was 20 rows.8. Sew the ends together to form the back/heel of the slipper.

9. You will now work around the upper of the slipper.  Join your yarn in the center back and  work 2 rounds, decreasing a couple of times at the back centre on each round (to help the slipper stay on when you are wearing it) and also at the ‘corner’ between the back and the toe: Decrease by pulling the last stitch of the heel and the first of the toe onto the hook, then pull up a loop and through all loops on your hook:

That’s these two stitches (sorry I didn’t get a better photo to show you which they were- hope that makes sense!):10. Finish off and weave in all ends. I made these roses and the chain ties were 120 chains long (if you want to wrap more times make longer ties!) and just threaded through the back of the slipper.
