And some for me too…

Using the basic crochet slipper pattern I blogged about last week, I made a pair of crochet slippers for myself.

Crochet slippers free patternI admit, cream isn’t an obvious choice for slippers… but I’m making a concerted effort to reduce the amount of wool I have on hand. So cream it was…Crochet slippers free patternI think the turquoise rose sets them off quite nicely. And what’s that hiding under my jeans…

Crochet slippers free patternA little whimsy… Ballet ties!!

Easy Crochet Slippers – Adult sizing.

Using worsted weight wool and a 4mm hook these fit my rather large size 9s.  To make bigger slippers, increase more (or use a larger hook and heavier yarn), to make smaller increase less (or use a smaller hook and a lighter weight yarn)… most wools will have plenty of stretch so keep that in mind, make your slippers tighter rather than too loose.

1. Chain 4 and join with a slip stitch to make a circle. Chain 1 and sc 7 (8sc total)  times into the circle – do not join, you will work in continuous rounds… use a marker if that helps (I usually just count the stitches – but this can be disaster if you get interrupted and lose your place).

2. 2Sc into each stitch around (16sc).

3. 2sc in the first stitch, 1sc in the next, repeat around (24sc).

4. 2sc in the first stitch, 1 sc in the next 2 stitches, repeat around (32sc).

5.  From here on just work 1 sc in each stitch around.  Keep working in rounds until the slipper is long enough to reach us far as you like up the foot. Here’s how far I went, 22 rounds:Easy crochet slippers free pattern 6. Work the first 22 stitches, then turn (leaving 10 stitches un-worked – this will be the top of your slipper) ch 1 and work back across the stitches you just made. Continue working back and forth- don’t forget to chain 1 at the end of each row:

Easy crochet slippers7. Keep working back and forth until the slipper is long enough, when stretched, to reach the heel. For me this was 20 rows.Crochet slippers 378. Sew the ends together to form the back/heel of the slipper.

Crochet slippers 389. You will now work around the upper of the slipper.  Join your yarn in the center back and  work 2 rounds, decreasing a couple of times at the back centre on each round (to help the slipper stay on when you are wearing it) and also at the ‘corner’ between the back and the toe: Decrease by pulling the last stitch of the heel and the first of the toe onto the hook, then pull up a loop and through all loops on your hook:Crochet slippers 39

That’s these two stitches (sorry I didn’t get a better photo to show you which they were- hope that makes sense!):Crochet slippers 4110. Finish off and weave in all ends. I made these roses and the chain ties were 120 chains long (if you want to wrap more times make longer ties!) and just threaded through the back of the slipper.

Enjoy!

Sometimes, a simple photo shoot is no easy task. Especially if I have a ‘helper’.Carter silly Today he wanted me to go and play transformers. NOW, MUM!

I like the ballet strings and the flowers. Then again, they are just right for being a transformer. You could be a crane that transforms into a giant crochet hook that weaves a net to save the world!! Bet you can’t tell I have a four year old grandson who loves to play transformers!
Hope you had fun. I do like the mirror idea. I have the damndest time taking photos or getting my daughter to take time to model for me! At any rate, I love the slipper pattern and I will be linking both of your posts to my blog.

Hi Cathy, you made me laugh- yes I can tell you have a four year old grandson who like to play transformers!! Thus far no crochet hooks have come into our transformer play, but now that I know its allowed Ill be sure and work some crochet in! I use the mirror a lot, and so long as the sun isn’t shining on it, and its not dirty, it works really well!

They are lovely slippers. i checked out the flower pattern page you suggested and I was surprised (and pleased) to see the Kangaroo Apple flower. I live near a creek and these beautiful flowers grow in wild abundance. I thought they were an aussie plant but apparently they are native to New Zealand as well. your ”helper” is adorable!

I really love your new slippers, and I’ve added them to my patterns list, as I’m determined to make at least 12 pairs of slippers, of varying sizes, patterns, and hues, so that our guests can change into them when they call – I’m feeling a Japanese mood coming on! 🙂

I find it a lot easier too because you can frame up exactly as you want it to, I don’t use the auto function very much, but when I do I end up taking a gazillion photos and most of them are unusable. X

Hi Janette, Thank you for sharing your cute slipper pattern. I’ve been wanting to make this slipper for months now and I finally started it today. I’m a new crocheter. I just finished the Step 8 and I have a hard time following the Step 9. I hope you can help me or if you have a video I can follow. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. ^_^

Janette, do we have your permission to sell the finished crochet slipper? I would never sell the pattern itself, just the slipper and I will point back to your blog (or whereever you would like credit for the adorable slipper) 🙂 Setting up my etsy shop now – here is my email address….reeka@wideopenwest.com I made several of these for my co-workers – they loved them!!!
