Well it’s been a bit quiet here at the green dragonfly because we have just been away camping for the week, I’m right in the midst of mountains of washing, and loads of unpacking. Ill be back with some holiday pics tomorrow, but in the meantime I wanted to share another part of the present I made for my Mum for her birthday last week… some crochet coasters and a cute bowl to hold them in:
I used a 3mm hook and 8ply cotton which made for a very firm fabric for the coasters. And, very importantly, colors Mum loves…
She liked them and I was pleased with how they turned out… This is a lovely easy gift to make and I can see Ill be making more of these in the future. You can find the free pattern for the coasters here (I just made the bowl up as I went). Talk again soon! Janettexx
Edited to add that I have posted a photo tutorial for these coasters here: https://thegreendragonfly.wordpress.com/2014/09/20/crochet-coasters-tutorial/
This is really lovely – I might have to add some to my queue!!! 😀

Really nice. They were already in my to-do list for my mother also, but first I need to start another project for her, a square basket to put the cutlery in her drawer, as I want to use the leftovers. I like the idea to make also a small bowl to hold them. Thanks for sharing.
BTW, have a look at http://www.gleefulthings.com/blog/?p=1884 I have just learned how to make an invisible join.

Hi. This is very weird I have just made exactly the same thing – a set of coasters and a bowl to keep them in! I’ve just got to sewn in my ends and it’s finished. Mine are slightly different pattern and made with ecru craft cotton so not the beautiful colours you’ve used. BTW, I’ve just started following your blog and I LOVE it❤

8 ply cotton yarn is hard to find here..naybe not here at all. I uaed sugar n cream and an f hook. On round 4, 5 dc per petal, and sc between the 2 and third dc in round below instead of in the same space as dcs. Worked out great. Thanks

I just finished 6 lovely coasters for my moms birthday at the end of Jan. Since I am new to crochet I have no clue how to make the bowl, which I am upset about. I just wasn’t thinking. Darn it. This was an easy pattern and it took me just a few hrs (with a few breaks) to make all 6. Thanks so much! You have a lovely blog. I follow and share.

Good morning. I looked through a few stores for some coasters to use on our new coffee table and couldn’t find any. Then it occurred to me that I could make some crocheted ones. I did a search on the ‘net and found your lovely pattern. After making the first coaster, I was “hooked”. I have four made and intend to make a couple more sets in coordinating colors. This pattern is quick, easy, and pretty. Thank you so much for sharing.
