Pots of colour

It was a drizzly grey day yesterday and after spending some time trying to make amends in my garden I planted some pots of colour to brighten our deck.

Pretty polyanthus, and beautiful pansies…Not to mention a couple of pots of lovely cyclamens….Which I hope will brighten even the dullest of winter days!

I also harvested a huge bucket load of yams, I grew these from tubers I kept last year; and probably increased my yield by about 400%. These are a selfish crop because Im really the only one in the family that likes to eat them- although I have to say that both of the children were enthusiastically talking them up as we collected them. Maybe since they had a hand in harvesting them they will eat a few more? But regardless, these colorful beauties will be gracing our dinner table tonight- if no one else eats them I know I will! Ill be back tomorrow with another flower (crochet this time) to share with you. Jxx

We love sweet potatoes around here, Try making them into ‘fries’, even the worst malcontent will love them. They also go well as an addition into biscuits (not cookies though, US biscuits). Yours are so beautiful, such colors!

They are sweetish, I baked them with butter and a little brown sugar. When the were cooked added a little salt and lots if freshly cracked pepper! Yum! The kids would not eat any, Maia did lick the butter/sugar off one though!

Hi, I stumbled upon your blog while googling crochet gloves for kiddies, and I have since subscribed…….. it’s FUN!!! I’m from South Africa, and we have sweet potatoes here, and these yams look very similar – are they the same as sweet potatoes? I’d like to share a different recipe which I just love, using sweet potatoes – perhaps you can try your yams the same way :
scrub the skins clean, and cut into bite size pieces, drizzle with olive oil and roast in the oven. when cooked place on paper towel to coole, then salt. break coriander roughly and toss the sweet potatoes, coriander and some sweet chilli sauce together.
Eat as a cool salad/side dish!
