A room in outer space…

This week’s project has been decorating a new room for Carter. He has, until now, been residing in the smallest bedroom of the house. This was nice and cosy for a wee baby, but now he is getting bigger we decided to move him into what was the spare room to give him more space to spread out and also because it is a lovely warm room. No ‘before’ photos sorry… but here’s the ‘after’ shot:

It really is a lovely room – it looks right out over the vege garden!

The walls are in a very pale shade of sea spray blue and his bed is a dark navy blue.  His bedhead and bedside cabinet are red, so trying to find curtains that matched all of these colours (plus the array of blues and red in his cover) proved to be a bit of a mission.

So I came up with these outer space themed curtains…

They are just black curtains made of a heavy block out fabric (little boy’s need dark curtains… trust me!) which I appliqued a variety of space thingys onto…

Outer space boys roomI’m really happy with how they turned out, but if I’m completely honest it wasn’t the most fun of activities.  I had trouble trying to sew onto such big pieces of fabric – everything kept getting tangled up, not to mention my machine jamming a gazillion time (I even threatened to throw it out at one point), and the curtains were very heavy to manoeuvre around.  The best parts were cutting out the little space creatures, hanging the (FINALLY!) finished curtains and seeing a very happy little boy’s face 🙂

    What a wonderful sunny room!!
The curtains are wonderful and I bet his happy smile made you pleased you’d wrestled them though the machine! They truly are wonderful xx

I agree with dark curtains and rooms for little boys! Carter’s room looks lovely – curtain making is one of the jobs I’m not incredibly keen on – they just get so heavy. You did a fabulous job!
