Lots of Little Fishys

Cute fishy bunting, just the type of bunting a little boy who loves fishing would like… and the best part is its super easy to make!

Select your yarn and a corresponding hook, (I used a mix of yarn scraps which were all about 8ply and a 3.5mm hook). Lets begin…

1. Make a magic circle, chain 2 and Double Crochet (DC) 9 times into the circle.  Pull tight and secure with a slip stitch (10DC)

2. Slip stitch into the next stitch (I do this because its more secure to start there), Chain 2 and 4DC into the same stitch, 1DC into each of the next 4 stitches. 5DC into the next stitch, 1DC into each of the next 4 stitches, join round with a slip stitch (body made).

3. Make the tail; SS into the next stitch and chain 5. Single crochet in the second chain from the hook and 1 DC into each of the next 3 stitches. Join with a slip stitch into the same stitch. SS into the next stitch and chain 5. Single crochet in the second chain from the hook and 1 DC into each of the next 3 stitches. Join with a slip stitch into the same stitch (tail made), SS into the next stitch, fasten off first colour and join new colour.

4. Chain 1 and single crochet into the back loop only of each stitch around the outside of the fish. Fasten off and weave in all ends. Leave it as is or add an eye if you like! If  your fishys don’t sit as flat as you would like give them a gentle iron on the reverse side (use a hanky or tea towel between your fish and the iron)- a little spray starch also helps.

Repeat as many times as desired.

You might have noticed the pink and blue fishy above doesn’t have a tail that matches his body, he was the first one I made – I just did the tail when crocheting around with the second colour… I liked the other way better but the kids wouldn’t let me leave him out of the fun with the others!

Have fun playing with your fishys as they are or make a bunting – simply chain crochet, I spaced these randomly with between 10 and 20 chains between each one… hanging them longways so it was like a fishing line.
