As you know last weekend I was pondering how to cover my two new (to me) little stools….
I decided on a simple round crochet, and a pink/red/orange/maroon colour scheme. The cover was finished very quickly, its simply half double crochet, joined on each round, with increases on each row to keep it flat.
Crochet stool cover pattern:
Start with a magic circle and chain 3 (counts as first hdc), then crochet 10 hdc into the ring, pull circle tight and join with a slip stich into the top of the chain 3.
Tie off first colour and attach next colour.
Round 1; chain 3 and hdc into the same stitch, 2 hdc in each stitch around. Join with ss and fasten off.
Round 2; Attach next colour, chain 3 and hdc into the same stitch, hdc in next stitch, *2 hdc in next stitch, hdc in next** repeat from * to ** around, join with a ss. fasten off.
Round 3. Attach next colour, chain 3 and hdc into the same stitch, hdc in next 2 stitches, *2 hdc in next stitch, hdc in next 2 stitches** repeat from * to ** around, join with a ss. fasten off.
Round 4. Attach next colour, chain 3 and hdc into the same stitch, hdc in next 3 stitches, *2 hdc in next stitch, hdc in next 3 stitches** repeat from * to ** around, join with a ss. fasten off.
Round 5. Attach next colour, chain 3 and hdc into the same stitch, hdc in next 4 stitches, *2 hdc in next stitch, hdc in next 4 stitches** repeat from * to ** around, join with a ss. fasten off.
Continue in this way, increasing every 5, 6, 7, 8… stitches around as you rounds increase until the cover is the same size as your stool top.
Cover sides: Chain 2 and hdc into the back loop of each stitch around. Join with ss in top of chain 2. Next and all subsequent sides; Chain 2 hdc into each stitch around. Join with ss in top of chain 2, continue until the cover is slightly longer than the depth of your stool top, fasten off and leave a long end.
Finishing. Weave in all ends. Thread long last end onto needle and sew a running stitch around the last hdc of your cover side. Put cover over stool and pull running stitch tight. Don’t pull it so tight that you can’t remove the cover, just tight enough to hold it firmly in place and stop the cover sliding off. Fasten off and weave in the last end. Sit back and admire your funky ‘new’ stool!!!
This is awesome! I’m definitely in need of some old stools to cover. Linking up at Tangled Happy tomorrow. Thanks for sharing this! 🙂
